The Power Of Goal Setting

I can’t quite believe we’re in August already – I’ve no idea where this summer has gone.

But a new month brings a new set of goals.

I’m a strong believer in setting markers for success. 2 months ago I attended a brilliant event that emphasized the importance of setting goals. I decided to give it a go and it’s amazing how far i’ve come since.

It wasn’t easy at first. I looked around the room and everyone was writing away, and I thought, “I’ve no idea what my goals are”. At first I was thinking about long term plans – things like buying a house (then I had a mini panic attack worrying about how we’ll ever afford it), getting a dog (then I got excited about getting our first pup), and what I want out of my career (then I had another mini panic attack). It was a bit of a mental roller coaster.

But then I scaled it down. I asked myself, “In my heart, what do I really want?”And I took it from there, & that’s when the goals came flooding in.

There are things I want that other people might think are unrealistic or unattainable – and these were the most difficult things to write down. But then I came to realize, they’re my goals, my future & my life. If I want something, I should go get it. And you should too.

The goals don’t have to be anything significant. It could be saving goals, holiday goals, health goals or personal goals. Whatever you want. One of my 3 month goals was to believe in myself more. I’ve seen a huge change since I first set that target, so it’s nice to look back and see how far i’ve come.

The power of goal setting is incredible. Not only does it encourage you to work hard, it motivates you on those days when you feel lost, or like things aren’t going your way. Goal setting makes you positive, and positivity breeds success.

Goal Setting Challenge

I challenge you to write down your goals for:

* This time next month

* This time in 3 months

* This time next year

* This time in 5 years

The goals can be as minor or significant as you like, but they are your goals. Share them with people, or don’t. The point is that these are markers for your success, and if you really want something, make it happen and go get it!

Happy August all! x

    Goal setting is so important, I totally agree! Your questions you ask in your blog post remind me a lot fo the questions from the planner I have (Passion Planner) It is amazing how just thinking about your goals and writing them down helps you align your actions with reaching the goals!

        Great post Alicia! I loved how you mentioned that you had to look at your goal from afar to really reflect on what it was that you truly want. I know with my own goals, I fall into the trap of always trying to “keep up with the joneses” or do something that makes me look impressive to others, but as you know, this isn’t where true happiness lies. Great job again! And by the way, I wanted to mention another planner you may enjoy – it’s called the Top Down Planner. It was created by a woman who was on Shark Tank!

    Thank you!! I’m glad you liked it. Yes the hardest part is definitely following through. Sometimes those goals don’t happen within the given time frame but the most important part is committing to working towards them & just taking it from there! Good luck with the start of the school year 🙂
