Transport to get from Hanoi to Cat Ba is easy to organise and a fairly easy journey. Buses and ferries run frequently throughout the day, and if you’re staying at a decent hotel, they’ll probably be happy to organise tickets for you.
Bus from Hanoi to Cat Ba
Duration: 5-6 hours
Price: 270,000 VD per person.
You will set off from Hanoi Bus station (you’ll need to get a taxi to here from the Old Quarter), and take the coach to Haiphong. You will then change buses to get to Ben Binh pier, and take a small ferry over to Cat Ba.
Waiting for you will be another coach to take you to Cat Ba town. Buses are air-conditioned, and you’ll be sure to find other travellers taking this route. All in all, the journey takes around 5-6 hours door to door, but it’s a great way to see some of rural Vietnam.
