Whether it’s your first long haul flight or if you’re a frequent flyer, there are a few travel essentials that you should always pack in your hand luggage to help you travel in comfort. I always find long plane journeys uncomfortable and never the most relaxing experience, so it’s always nice to have a few personal essentials to make the journey more pleasant.
So, here are my recommended top travel essentials for long haul flights so you can make the journey that bit more enjoyable until you reach your destination.
Layers
If I could give one piece of advice for long haul flights, it would be to wear layers. Planes are notoriously known for variable temperatures, so especially if you’re travelling from a tropical climate always remember to pack extra layers and a pair of leggings/trousers to keep you cosy and comfortable on the journey.
Kindle
Although you may have an extensive in-flight movie selection to choose from, it’s always nice to have a back-up selection of books to keep you occupied. I always find it’s nice to have a few different types of books on my kindle, so whatever my mood I can find something to suit me.
Food
Plane food has improved over the years, but it’s never to a gourmet standard nor is it particularly healthy. Plane food is stodgy and low in nutrients as well as packed with additives, preservatives and salt to give the meal more flavour at 30,000 feet, so it’s hard to know exactly what is going into your meal. I always buy food, lots of water and healthy snacks at the airport prior to the flight so that I can avoid eating plane food and resist the temptation to indulge in a sweet treat mid flight.
Toiletries
It’s always nice to freshen up on board particularly if you’re travelling long haul. Take a toothbrush, deodorant and face wipes so that you can feel fresh when you arrive. Always take moisturiser and some lip balm too, as the air con will undoubtedly dry out your skin which will play havoc with your tan!
